Malo Kerguen grew up in Lorient, three hundred metres from the water. Optimist, dinghies, then his first offshore regattas — the classic path of a coastal kid, until a delivery back from the Azores turned a hobby into a life's direction: ocean racing it would be.
In 2021 he started the Mini Transat on a production boat prepared at night, after long days at the engineering office where he worked on composite structures. Ninth into Saint-François after twenty-four days at sea. That result, achieved on a budget ten times smaller than the favourites', became his trademark: performance through preparation, not through the chequebook.
Two Figaro seasons later — the toughest school in French racing — he took the leap: buying Albacore, a latest-generation Class40, and founding his own team. Eleventh in the 2025 Transat Café L'Or on his first transat with the boat, sixth in the Normandy Channel Race in spring 2026.
What comes next is called the Route du Rhum. Sunday 8 November 2026, Saint-Malo. Ten days of solo sprint to Pointe-à-Pitre, in front of the biggest crowds in world sailing. The boat is ready. So is the skipper. One place remains on board — the partner whose name will carry this story.
